Keith Smith Memorial Award Receives a Boost
In 2008, the HERA Distinguished Service Award traditionally given out at the Metals Industry Conference’s Gala Dinner was re-named the Keith Smith Memorial Award, in honour of HERA’s Foundation Chairman and his associated endowment. The inaugural recipient of the new award was Associate Professor Dr Charles Clifton, former HERA Senior Structural Engineer.
Since then, Jean Smith, director of HERA member Mobridge and wife of the late Keith Smith, has added generously to the cash pool of the Award. Jean also confirmed that she has made a bequest to the Heavy Engineering Educational and Research Foundation (HEERF) to fund future research for the benefit of the heavy engineering industry of New Zealand. HERA thanked Jean on behalf of its members at the last HERA Executive Meeting at HERA House.
