Industry Awards & Nomination 2008
A series of recognition awards sponsored by the partners are handed out at the Metals Industry Awards Gala Dinner . The Awards categories are:

HERA-sponsored Awards
The HERA Awards are sponsored by the Heavy Engineering Educational and Research Foundation (HEERF) which runs a

  • Keith Smith Memorial Award for Distinguished Services
    This award is for those who have contributed significantly to the Metals Industry, either to the industry as a whole or to a sub-sector
  • HERA Innovation Award
    This award recognises individuals or companies that have made a substantial leap in technological design or manufacture, and brought greater recognition to the country and industry
  • HERA Exporter of the Year Award
    This award applauds the company that has achieved significant export earnings and in turn creating a positive NZ presence in the global economy.

Previous Winners of HERA Awards
The HERA Award for Distinguished Services has been given to Keith Smith (2004), Stuart Thomson (2006) and Charles Clifton (2008). The photo shows Ass. Prof. Dr Charles Clifton receiving the award from HERA Deputy Chairman Peter Hutton at the 2008 Gala Dinner in the Auckland Museum.

Winner of the HERA Innovation Award were Cuddon Engineering (2006) and Windflow Technologies (2008). The photo shows the 2008 winner Windflow Technologies represented by John Arimond receive the award from HERA Deputy Chairman Peter Hutton.

Winners of the HERA Exporter of the Year Award were Warratah Engineering (2004), BBC Technologies (2006) and Framecad (2008). The photo below shows Framecad's CEO Mark Taylor left and ?? receive the Export Award from HERA Deputy Chairman Peter Hutton.

SCNZ Awards for Excellence in Steel Construction
Steel Construction New Zealand Inc. is pleased to announce its Excellence in Steel Construction Awards. The objective is to celebrate New Zealands excellence in the field of steel construction by identifying projects that demonstrate best practice, outstanding teamwork, application of sustainability principles, great safety management and innovation. The awards will be given out every two years.

Focus
This is restricted to steel structures built by SCNZ Steel Constructors using New Zealand-fabricated steelwork. The buildings must have been completed and ready for occupation or use during the period from July 2008 to December 2010. There are four categories:

  • Buildings of one or two storeys.
  • Buildings of more than two storeys.
  • Bridges and infrastructure.
  • Special structures.
