Metals Week 2015 Gaining Momentum

Unlike the dairy, agricultural and ICT industries, New Zealand’s metals industry is the quiet hero working in the background of the GDP, employing over 26,000 Kiwis and contributing $7.3 bn a year, more than a third of which is for products and services for export.

In construction, for example, steel content now makes up close to 70 per cent of new commercial buildings in Wellington and Christchurch, with important lessons learnt that have driven that rise in the use of metal for safer, more durable and sustainable buildings.

With METALS WEEK 2015, the industry is raising the banner and telling its story to the country, what it does and how it does it. Activities around the country and specifically in Auckland will help showcase the industry’s achievements, culminating in the INDUSTRY AWARDS GALA DINNER where eight sectors (from steel to stainless steel to titanium) will award champion from among their own. Events are planned to recognize and celebrate excellence, to network, to inform and inspire our leaders and members, as we look to further develop our capabilities and achievements as a metals based industry.

We are expecting 650 people – delegates and visitors – during the days at Aotea from 2nd September as there will be three major conferences (MRM, Steel Innovations and Metals Industry), seven association meetings and in the evening, the Industry Awards Gala Dinner with about 440 dinner guests. A 40-booth Industry Exhibition is planned for three days, with easy access to the main meeting areas. An exciting outdoor display is also being planned with interactivity and educational components.

The STEEL INNOVATIONS CONFERENCE will feature over 40 papers on topics of relevance in today’s environment, such as seismic engineering design and construction, including a line-up of international experts.

Our line-up of speakers for the METALS INDUSTRY CONFERENCE on the 3rd of September include:
